• Writing Complex is a research-creation project exploring new models for computational typography and new genres of digital writing. The project will combine the production of text-based art and design-works with advanced techniques and software systems necessary for experimental text composition, reception and interaction. An interdisciplinary team of visual artists, designers, writers and technologists will collaboratively investigate how properties that are unique to the digital medium, such as interactivity, variability, computation, and network connectivity can be better understood conceptually and creatively, and better supported technically.

ComplexType

The ComplexType effort focusing on developing a new, born-digital font format. The format will exploit several characteristics unique to the digital format to create spatial letterforms; interactive letterforms that can respond to the actions of the reader, other glyphs and other media within the same reading space; variable letterforms that change, evolve, and mutate; and letterforms that are designed to take advantage of network connectivity.
